Shanghai-based Angelalign, a clear aligner company, is set to appeal a judgment from a Chinese court in China that ruled in favor of Tempe, Ariz.-based Invisalign manufacturer Align Technology in a patent infringement battle.
The Chinese court directed Angelalign’s Chinese subsidiaries to stop using the masterForce biomechanics simulation system and the ATreat digital diagnosis and design system to generate A7 and A7 Speed premolar extraction solutions, according to an Aug. 13 news release from Angelalign.
In September 2025, Align filed a complaint to block Angelalign from importing clear aligners, alleging that Angelalign’s clear aligners used patented technology from Align without authorization.
Angelalign is “confident” that its A7 Premolar Extraction Solution does not infringe any valid patent. On May 12, 2026, a court in Germany issued a preliminary ruling rejecting Align Technology’s request for a preliminary injunction requiring Angelalign to cease using the A7 Premolar Extraction Solution. The patents in both the German and Chinese cases are from the same patent family.
The preliminary decision, which only applies in China, has not yet taken effect, the release said.
