The Community College of Baltimore County in Maryland has opened the first virtual reality lab for dental hygiene students in the U.S., WBALTV reported March 6.
The lab, which was funded by the Delta Dental Community Care Foundation, includes virtual reality software from Gleechi, a Swedish technology company. The facility will help dental hygiene students gain skills before practicing on real patients.
Brionna Watson, director of the school’s dental hygiene program, said the VR training improves student engagement and retention, ultimately helping to alleviate workforce shortages.
At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
