Dental benefits provider United Concordia Dental has partnered with Harmony Health on a pilot program using salivary testing technology.

Harmony Health is the nonprofit arm of Oral Genome, the developer of a salivary test that detects biomarkers associated with caries and periodontitis.

The pilot program aims to assess the role of salivary testing on improving preventive dental care for underserved populations in Pennsylvania. The program includes 400 children and adults enrolled in Medicaid with a concentration on those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, according to an Oct. 6 news release.

Three dental organizations are also participating in the program, including North American Dental Group, Miracle Dental Associates, and the Westmoreland County Community College Dental Hygiene Program.

Results from the pilot will be used to inform strategies for nationwide expansion.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
