A proposed class-action lawsuit has been filed against Futuredontics, the parent company of 1-800-Dentist, over the company’s recent data breach.
Russian-based ransomware group Qili claimed on its blog June 28 that it stole an undisclosed amount of data from 1-800-Dentist. The group posted several sample files reportedly containing information from the last decade, including lead-generation information, customer data, employee payroll and salary records, confidentiality agreements and financial data. The hackers threatened to publish the files unless the company contacted them and paid an unspecific ransom amount.
The proposed class-action, filed by former customer Lariesha Lincoln, accuses the company of failing to protect patient information. The lawsuit seeks to represent those whose private information was compromised in the breach, according to court documents.
The lawsuit was filed July 6 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
