Russian-based ransomware group Qili recently threatened to publish files from 1-800-Dentist unless the dental company pays an undisclosed ransom fee, Cybernews reported June 30.
Five notes:
1. The ransomware group claimed on its blog June 28 that it stole an undisclosed amount of data from 1-800-Dentist.
2. The hackers threatened to publish the files unless the company contacted them and paid an unspecific ransom amount.
3. The group posted several sample files reportedly containing information from the last decade, including lead-generation information, customer data, employee payroll and salary records, confidentiality agreements and financial data.
4. 1-800-Dentist has not yet confirmed that any cyber incident has taken place.
5. 1-800-Dentist serves more than 5,000 dental practices in the U.S., according to its website.
