Drs. Joel Berg, David Lustbader & more: 5 dentists making headlines

The following five dentists made headlines this past week.


Massachusetts dentists told the Massachusetts Legislature they felt forced to join Delta Dental's Total Choice Preferred Provider Organization Oct. 3. Massachusetts Dental Society President David Lustbader, DMD, told legislators dentists were given the choice in 2016 to sign up for the PPO within a month or deal with a "one-year lock-out." Mehr Faisal, DMD, a general dentist, was designated a 2017 Top Doctor in Miramar. Dr. Faisal earned her doctor of dental medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Joel Berg, DDS, resigned from his position as dean of University of Washington School of Dentistry in Seattle, according to The Seattle Times. Serving as dean since 2012, Dr. Berg has managed the dental school as debt has been accumulating. The dental school currently has a deficit totaling $36 million.

Aspen Dental plans to open two new dental offices in Gurnee and Joliet, Ill., next month. Brian Haddad, DMD, will head the Gurnee practice. Abigail Brier, DMD, will lead the Joliet practice.
