Connecticut dentist sentenced to 6 years in prison for illegally prescribing oxycodone: 4 takeaways

Peter Delaney, DMD, spent the last year at Northern Correctional Institution in Somers, Conn., after investigators arrested the dentist for illegally prescribing opioids, the Hartford Courant reports.

Here are four takeaways.

1. Dr. Delaney pled guilty to three counts of illegally distributing narcotics in February. He was sentenced to six years in prison.

2. At the time of his arrest, Dr. Delaney was also addicted to painkillers. His practice in West Hartford, Conn., is closed permanently.

3. Prosecutors and the judge thanked Dr. Delaney for taking responsibility for his actions. The prosecutor also emphasized how Dr. Delaney's actions led others to addiction.

4. Kevin Baker is one of the people who fell victim to addiction after Dr. Delany sourced Mr. Baker's opioids. Mr. Baker was arrested for robbing East Granby bank twice. He robbed the bank to pay off drug debts.
