Danaher weighs GE life sciences unit acquisition: 5 things to know

Similar to many medical device manufacturers, Danaher approached General Electric about acquiring a piece of its life sciences division, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Here are five things to know.

1. The proposed transaction was not disclosed, and GE did not engage in the offer, people close to the matter told WSJ.

2. Recently, GE has been restructuring its business to narrow it's focus. The company's life-science business is one of two major business lines within GE's healthcare division.

3. GE's life science unit has 50,000 employees and generated close to 20 billion in revenue in 2017. It also accounts for 24 percent of GE's healthcare division sales.

4. Danaher is another healthcare giant. The company's market value sits around $70 billion, and the company generated $18.3 billion in revenue in 2017.

5. Its efforts to begin talks with GE follows Danaher's $13.6 billion acquisition of Pall Corp., in 2015.
