American College of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons selects 1st female president: 5 insights

Stephanie Drew, DMD, became the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons' president.

Here are five insights.

1. Dr. Drew is the first female to take on the chief executive position for the organization.

2. Dr. Drew is an associate professor at Atlanta-based Emory University School of Medicine in the oral and maxillofacial surgery division.

3. Prior to joining Emory, Dr. Drew served as a senior partner at the New York Center for Orthognathic and Maxillofacial Surgery in New York City. She spent 23 years in this position.

4. She spent time as an attending physician at Stony Brook (N.Y.) University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens, N.Y.

5. After earning her doctor of dental medicine degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University College of Dental Medicine in Teaneck, N.J., Dr. Drew completed her oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.
