Dentist defends practice after 2 patients test positive for hepatitis C: 3 things to know

Earlier in June, Simoce Muskoka District Health in Ontario, Canada officials reported two patients from a single dental clinic tested positive for hepatitis C.

Now, Joe Phillip and Associates in Ontario, Canada, is responding to the health department's allegations of using nonsterile instruments, according to Toronto City News.

Here are three things to know:

1. The health department's investigation revealed the dental clinic may have been using equipment that was not properly cleaned. Patients who underwent treatment from Jan. 1, 2012 to Dec. 18, 2017, were recommended to get tested.

2. After two patients tested positive for hepatitis C, the dental clinic is defending the clinic's sanitation process, suggesting no instruments at the practice are incorrectly sterilized.

3. The clinic went on to state their sterilization procedures meet the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario guidelines.
