New York hospital ends dentistry services: 5 things to know

Norwich, N.Y.-based UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital is terminating its dentistry services at the end of October, according to The Daily Star.

Here are five things to know:

1. The hospital attributed the service terminationto insufficient Medicaid reimbursements.

2. Kevin Decker, DDS, is the lead dentist at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital. He may transfer to a dental clinic at UHS Binghamton (N.Y.) General Hospital.

3. New York hospitals and dentists earn a lower reimbursement for dental care compared to other states.

4. Along with shutting down its dental services, UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital is ending its ear, nose and throat services.

5. John Sweet, MD, is the lead ENT-otolaryngologist at the hospital. He plans to retire when services are terminated.
