Tennessee insurer makes 2nd dental HMO acquisition: 3 observations

Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Unum Group acquired Jaimini Health, a dental health maintenance organization in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., according to Mainebiz.

Here are three observations:

1. Jaimini operates as PrimeCare Dental Plan and serves most of California. Details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

2. This is Unum Group's second dental-related acquisition. In 2016, the group acquired Starmount Life Insurance Co., a Louisiana dental and vision insurer, in a $127 million deal.

3. The Jaimini acquisition will enable Unum Group to expand its dental business. Unum Group expects to begin offering dental HMO plans under its name in the third quarter of 2019.
