Nonprofit St. Vincent de Paul completed the renovation of a Glendale, Ariz., dental clinic that treats underserved patients.
The Delta Dental of Arizona Oral Health Center at the Virginia G. Piper Medical & Dental Clinic doubled in size from an eight-chair clinic to 16 chairs. With the expansion, providers can treat more than 10,000 patients annually.
Previously, dental volunteers at the clinic could only treat 6,000 patients annually.
"Within a month, I will see more severely medically compromised patients than you would see in private practice in five years," said Ken Snyder, DMD, of St. Vincent de Paul. "Without Delta Dental of Arizona and other generous donors in our community, this clinic and the types of procedures we offer patients or the training we do for dental students, may not have been possible."
Delta Dental of Arizona donated $1 million to the nonprofit in 2017. The donation went toward sustaining additional operational costs at the expanded clinic. With the money, St. Vincent de Paul will be able to provide preventive and emergency oral healthcare at the clinic for the next 10 years.
