The DentaQuest Partnership for Oral Health Advancement invested $640,000 in U.S. organizations in the third quarter of 2019, according to an Oct. 31 news release.
Year-to-date, DentaQuest has donated $9.6 million to support efforts on integrating nurse practitioners in dental settings.
For the third quarter, a $300,000 grant was given to Cambridge, Mass.-based Harvard School of Dental Medicine to integrate nurse practitioners into dental clinic settings. The award will allow the development of a financial model that can address general health issues in dental care settings.
"The nurse practitioner – dentist model at HSDM is a person-centered care model promoting prevention, health promotion and chronic disease management. We expect that our results will advance medical-dental integration and positively influence the public perception of the value of the dental office as a gateway to comprehensive health care," Maria C. Dolce, PhD, RN, co-principal investigator at HSDM, said in the news release.
In a recent DentaQuest research report, 93 percent of dentists and 86 percent of physicians surveyed thought greater collaboration across medical and dental providers would improve patient care, according to Myechia Minter-Jordan, MD, chief impact office of DentaQuest.
