A Florida dentist hired a teacher after some employees with children said they would have difficulty returning to work unless they had child care, according to CBS affiliate WJAX-TV.
"With schools closed, and after-school programs closed, we really were in a bind," said C.J. Henley, DMD, a dentist at Jacksonville, Fla.-based Simply Better Dentistry. The practice hired Nina Mays, a fourth-grade math and science teacher, to teach the staff's children four days a week at the dental office.
Ms. Mays teaches kids from kindergarten to eighth grade, along with her 40 fourth-graders virtually.
"Usually in the mornings they have their live chats that they all have to get on with their teachers. I have mine as well," Ms. Mays told WJAX-TV. The teacher then conducts science experiments, cooks, and does arts and crafts with the children, among other things.
"There is still debate, from what I understand, whether or not schools will open up in the fall, so realistically we could be doing this indefinitely," Dr. Henley said. "To everybody else out there, it's possible and I think that it can be done safely."
