The state of Texas on Aug. 10 ordered Dallas dentist Richard Malouf, DDS, to pay roughly $16.5 million for violating the Texas Medicaid Fraud Prevention Act.
The court found Dr. Malouf, who operated orthodontic practices in the Dallas area for years, had committed 1,842 violations of the fraud prevention law. He filed an abundance of false claims for Medicaid services, including procedures that were performed by different dentists and ones that occurred while he was vacationing in a different country, according to Preston Hollow People.
The court decision attempts to conclude a nearly decade long saga. In 2012, Dr. Malouf notably sued two local journalists for writing about his opulent lifestyle and home, which housed two movie theaters, a ballet studio, and a water park featuring water slides and a lazy river. Dr. Malouf sold the home in Dec. 2019.
