Washington man accused of breaking into dental office twice, stealing $15K+ of equipment

A man allegedly broke into a Bellingham, Wash., dental practice and stole $15,000 worth of property, before breaking back into the same business about 12 hours later, reports The Bellingham Herald.

Police booked Stephen Rick Charlie, 60, into jail Aug. 31 on counts of second-degree burglary, first-degree theft and malicious mischief.

The dental practice's owner reported that an unknown man had entered the business while it was closed, trashed the inside and stole an estimated $15,000 in property, including expensive dental equipment, Lt. Claudia Murphy told The Bellingham Herald.

Officers were called back to the business the next day, when a security system alerted the owner of an unknown person inside the closed office, according to Ms. Murphy.

Officers found Mr. Charlie inside, who admitted to the burglary the night prior and was in possession of some of the stolen property, Ms. Murphy reported. A window was broken during the second break-in, totaling about $1,000 in damage.

Mr. Charlie has a record of burglary, controlled substance possession, assault, theft, DUI, eluding police and escape since 1985, according to court documents cited by The Bellingham Herald.
