6 dentists making headlines

From COVID-19 violations to manslaughter charges, here are the dentists making headlines in the past week.

1. Alfonso Costa, DMD, a former Pittsburgh dentist who pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud, received a full pardon from President Donald Trump.

2. Waterford, Mich.-based Dr. Taylor's Family Dental Center, run by Marvin Taylor, DDS, was fined $2,100 by Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration for COVID-19 workplace violations.

3. Arthur Bushel, DDS, who taught at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and was an expert of fluoridation, died at age 99.

4. Louisiana dentist Todd Lawhon, DDS, was arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting his wife.

5. Ryan Thrower, DMD, became the first U.S. dentist to administer a COVID-19 vaccine.

6. Nathan Dale Willis, DDS, a Tennessee dentist, died Dec. 23 after suffering severe injuries from a skiing accident.
