Dentist warns against 'total mouth rehab' TikTok trend

Michael Tillery, DDS, warned against a TikTok trend showing off "total mouth rehab," CBS4 Indy reported Jan. 12.

The trend of influencers undergoing dental procedures, including veneers and crowns, to get a "Hollywood" smile has its risks for young people, the report said.

"Either procedure, veneers or crowns, [is] irreversible," Dr. Tillery said in the report. "You’re taking tooth away. If they ever come off, if they ever break, or if they get any decay underneath them, they'll have to be replaced."

He warned against young people undergoing the procedures and supported more conservative options, along with discussing treatments with dentists. Total mouth rehab can cost $20,000 to $60,000, he said.

"The average lifespan of a crown is 20-25 years," he said in the report. "So if these kids are going out there and doing this when they're 20-25, they can plan on having to re-do it, according to national averages, maybe once or twice in their lifetimes."
