New York dentist arrested, accused of trading opioid prescriptions for sex

Barry Arnold, DDS, a dentist in Valley Stream, N.Y., is facing criminal charges for allegedly writing illegal opioid prescriptions to women in exchange for sex acts, according to an Aug. 26 news release from the Eastern District of New York U.S. Attorney's Office.

Dr. Arnold is accused of illegally prescribing oxycodone, Percocet and Xanax to multiple women in exchange for sex acts between October 2016 and August 2020. The sex acts allegedly occurred after business hours at Dr. Arnold's former dental office, along with his current Valley Stream office and at his home. The alleged victims were not his dental patients.

"With a clear disregard for medical integrity, Dr. Arnold allegedly exchanged prescriptions for sex in his office and home," said Ray Donovan, special agent-in-charge with the Drug Enforcement Administration. "This investigation focused on a dentist abusing his position by proliferating drug abuse and endangering the lives and safety of several women."

If convicted, the 70-year-old dentist faces up to 20 years in prison.
