Roger Elliston, DMD, was on his way to work at a dental practice in Charlotte, N.C., when his car crashed around 6:30 a.m. on the highway, according to highway patrol officials.

Dr. Elliston, 64, was described as a semi-retired dentist who practiced part time.

Fire damage from the crash delayed the identification of both the vehicle and the driver. Investigators said they believe a medical situation or possible vehicle malfunction caused the wreck but may never know for certain, a highway trooper said.
