South Dakota dental board asks dentist to give up practice after domestic assault charges

The South Dakota Board of Dentistry has asked a dentist to stop practicing after five domestic assault charges were filed against him, according to public information available by the board.

Cale Slack, DDS, agreed with the dental board on Oct. 22 to give up his practice after being accused of choking his wife. Dr. Slack had been practicing in Sioux Falls since 1997 and had worked at Riverview Dental. His dental license is still listed as active.

Dr. Slack sold Riverview Dental to another dentist, Preston Schraeder, DDS, according to a KELO-TV investigation.

Dr. Slack is facing one felony aggravated assault charge and four misdemeanor assault charges related to alleged abuse that authorities say occurred in September, according to KELO-TV.

The case is set to go to trial Feb. 22. Dr. Slack faces up to 15 years prison if found guilty.
