New Phoenix dental residency targets care for racially diverse patients

Valleywise Health has established an advanced education program in general dentistry that will teach residents how to provide care to racially and ethnically diverse patients, the Phoenix-based public health system said Jan. 20.

Valleywise launched the program using funds from HHS’ Health Resources and Services Administration. 

The program’s training will focus on multidisciplinary oral healthcare with concepts of quality improvement and practice management. It will also help residents better understand the oral care needs of vulnerable populations.

The health system will begin recruiting residents this fall.
