Steven Friedrichsen, DDS, dean of the Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine in Pomona, Calif., will retire July 1.
Dr. Friedrichsen was named dean of the school in July 2011 after serving in the interim for five months.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Friedrichsen served in various leadership roles at other schools, including dean of Omaha, Neb.-based Creighton University Medical Center School of Dentistry and chair of the dental sciences department at Idaho State University in Pocatello.
Dr. Friedrichsen is credited with leading Western University's dental program, which began in 2009, to full accreditation in 2013 and its transformation into a reputable program among the dental education community.
Western University has formed a search committee for Dr. Friedrichsen's successor.
