Kentucky dentist accused of illegally prescribing opioids

A Crescent Springs, Ky.-based dentist has been accused of illegally prescribing opioids, which allegedly led to a person's death, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported April 25.

The dentist, Jay Sadrinia, DDS, is the owner of Northern Kentucky Dental Center.

Prosecutors said Dr. Sadrinia prescribed 60 oxycodone pills and 48 morphine sulfate pills from Aug. 4-26, 2020, to someone identified in the indictment as "C.W."

C.W. suffered serious injury and death as a result of taking the morphine prescribed by Dr. Sadrinia, according to court documents. Prosecutors said in the court documents that the prescriptions "were not issued for a legitimate medical purpose."

Dr. Sadrinia is being charged with unlawful distribution of oxycodone and morphine sulfate and distribution of morphine sulfate resulting in death or serious bodily injury, according to court records.

He could receive 20 years in prison and fines of $1 million, according to court documents.

Jeffrey Allen, executive director of the Kentucky Board of Dentistry, told the Cincinnati Enquirer that Dr. Sadrinia's license has been suspended until further notice.
