Previously, after turning 21, patients in the state with intellectual disabilities had limited access to dental insurance and care. Without coverage or insurance, patients had to pay for procedures out of pocket and were forced to go without preventive care, the report said.

The law, which took effect July 1, extends benefits for individuals with intellectual disabilities to provide insurance and coverage throughout their adult life.
