12 leaders becoming deans of dental schools in 2022

Here are 12 leaders who became deans or interim deans of dental schools in 2022 that Becker's has reported on since Jan. 13:

1. Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown appointed M. Frank Beck, DDS, dean of its upcoming dental school.

2. The University of Pikeville (Ky.) appointed Pamela Sparks-Stein, DMD, dean of its upcoming College of Dental Health.

3. The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine appointed Marnie Oakley, DMD, interim dean.

4. Lily Garcia, DDS, stepped down as dean from the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine to join Dallas-based Texas A&M University College of Dentistry as its dean in October.

5. The Western University of Health Sciences College of Dental Medicine in Pomona, Calif., appointed Elizabeth Andrews, DDS, its dean.

6. André Ritter, DDS, PhD, was appointed dean of the University of Washington School of Dentistry in Seattle.

7. Patrick Lloyd, DDS, joined the Stony Brook (N.Y.) University School of Dental Medicine as its dean.

8. The University of Michigan School of Dentistry in Ann Arbor named Dr. Jan Ching Chun Hu its interim dean.

9. The University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill appointed Janet Guthmiller, DDS, PhD, as dean.

10. Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences in Yakima, Wash., tapped Fotinos Panagakos, DMD, to be the founding dean of its upcoming dental school.

11. Susan Rowan, DDS, joined the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry as interim dean.

12. Lyndon Cooper, DDS, PhD, joined the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry in Richmond as its dean.
