10 best states for dental health

Wisconsin is the best state for dental health, according to personal finance website WalletHub, receiving an overall score of 74.69 out of 100 points.

The states were ranked based on two major metrics: dental habits and care and oral health. Those two categories were split up into 26 smaller metrics with varying weight. WalletHub published the rankings Feb. 1.

Metrics in the dental habits and care category include the share of adolescents and adults who visited a dentist in the past year, dental treatment costs, dentists per capita and presence of state oral health plans. 

Categories in the oral health section include the share of adults with poor or fair mouth and teeth condition, the share of adults who often experience oral pain and the share of adults who frequently experience sleeping problems due to the condition of their mouth and teeth.  

Here are the remaining states that make up the top ten:

Illinois — 73.63

District of Columbia — 73.59

Minnesota — 73.34

Connecticut — 71.49

North Dakota — 71.38

Michigan — 70.45

Idaho — 70.19

Massachusetts — 68.17

Ohio — 66.37
