University at Buffalo dental school launches clinical staff mentoring program

The University at Buffalo (N.Y.) School of Dental Medicine launched a mentoring program for staff and faculty.

The STEER program, which stands for support, training, early/mid-career, enhancement and retention, aims to better recruit and retain dental clinical faculty by supporting their career needs, according to a March 2 news release from the university.

The core of the program focuses on clinical practices, leadership and professional development, promotion and tenure, teaching and research.

The dental school hopes the program will decrease clinical faculty turnover and increase diversity among leadership positions, the release said.
