Abe Abdul, DMD, earned the 2022 Excellence in Action for Dental Health Award from the American Dental Association.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Abdul created Dental Cupid, an online directory of dentists able to treat patients with dental emergencies. The directory helped more than 14,000 patients receive care from a dentist rather than visit the emergency room, according to a March 6 news release.
Dr. Abdul is a member of the ADA Council on Government Affairs, vice president of the Massachusetts Dental Society and vice president of society's political action committee.
The award recognizes people that have helped progress initiatives related to the Action for Dental Health Act, which aims to expand dental care access to people with untreated dental diseases.
He is also the founder of Lux Dental Care, which has provided care to 450 patients of the Ryan White Dental Program. The program helps Massachusetts residents with HIV or AIDS have access to dental care, the release said.
