LA Care awards $1.5M in grants to combat dentist shortages

L.A. Care awarded $1.5 million to help increase the number of dental professionals in dental desert areas.

The grants will be used to increase the number of dental professionals, improve clinical infrastructure and support members of Medi-Cal — the state's Medicaid program — according to a March 20 news release.

More than 10,000 new patients will have access to dental and oral health care with the increased funding.

The funds were given to 15 facilities as part of the company's 14th round of oral health initiative grants. Each facility is eligible for up to $125,000 in support, the release said.

L.A. Care has given nearly $18 million in grants to support projects improving oral health infrastructure, education, prevention and treatment services to low-income communities.
