Oregon dental practice hit with cyberattack

An Oregon dental practice recently experienced a hacking incident affecting 1,596 people.

Sisters (Ore.) Dental launched an investigation into the cyberattack and identified individuals whose protected health information and personally identifiable information may have been affected Jan. 25. The practice is in the process of notifying those individuals, according to a notice from the practice. 

The information that may have been accessed during the cyberattack includes names, birth dates, treatment information, health insurance information and social security numbers. The practice said it found no evidence that any information was misused.

The practice reported the incident to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights March 24.
