Oklahoma dentist to pay $150K controlled substance allegations

Jennifer Burkitt, DDS, a dentist in Tulsa, Okla., agreed to pay $150,000 in penalties as a settlement following allegations that her practice violated the Controlled Substances Act. 

The Drug Enforcement Administration found violations including failure to maintain effective controls against diversion of controlled substances, practicing dentistry in an unsafe or unsanitary manner, failing to maintain complete and accurate records of controlled substances, failing to retain proper forms and failure to maintain proper inventory during an inspection, according to a July 7 news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma. 

The alleged violations occurred from Nov. 5, 2020, through June 9, 2022, the release said.
