Dental assistant arrested for allegedly forging dentist's signature for prescriptions

A dental assistant at a practice in Leesburg, Fla., was arrested after allegedly forging a dentist's signature to obtain prescription painkillers for herself, according to a July 20 report by leesburg-news.com.

Abigail Mateo is a dental assistant at Leesburg Smiles General and Family Dentistry. A dentist at the practice noticed that Ms. Mateo had allegedly ordered prescriptions of Percocet and Norco for herself without the dentist's permission. 

The prescriptions were sent electronically, which is when Ms. Mateo is accused of forging the dentist's signature. 

Ms. Mateo was charged with uttering a forged instrument and two counts of obtaining or attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud, forgery or misrepresentation. She was released from the Lake County Jail on a $6,000 bond, the report said.
