5 dental lawsuit settlements totaling $6.9M

Here are five lawsuit settlements that have taken place in the dental industry this year:

1. The Massachusetts Attorney General's Office announced in January that Aspen Dental will pay $3.5 million to resolve claims that the DSO used deceptive advertising campaigns on thousands of Massachusetts consumers.

2. SmileDirectClub agreed in February to pay $2.95 million in a class action lawsuit settlement.

3. Dental Health Products, a dental supply company based in New Franken, Wis., agreed in May to pay $25,000 to settle a federal sex-based retaliation lawsuit from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. 

4. Springfield, Ill.-based Familia Dental agreed in May to pay approximately $300,000 to settle allegations that it violated the False Claims Act.

5. In July, Jennifer Burkitt, DDS, agreed to pay $150,000 in penalties as a settlement following allegations that her practice violated the Controlled Substances Act.
