Do dentists feel they have enough to do?

Nearly 22 percent of dentists said that their perceived workload left them “not busy enough” in 2022, according to data from the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute.

The data was gathered as part of the ADA’s annual “Survey of Dental Practice” and includes general and specialty dentists. 

Here is the percentage of dentists who said they were “not busy enough” from 2007 to 2022:

2007: 20.5 percent

2008: 24.3 percent

2009: 32.9 percent

2010: 33 percent

2011: 38 percent

2012: 35.7 percent

2013: 35.9 percent

2014: 33.6 percent

2015: 27.6 percent

2016: 27.2 percent

2017: 24.4 percent

2018: 26.5 percent

2019: 18.1 percent

2021: 21.7 percent

2022: 21.9 percent
