A group of Chicago dentists have sued the city of Chicago over the School-Based Oral Health Program, which offers dental services to Chicago Public Schools students, according to a Sept. 18 report by Cook County Record.
The suit accuses the city of charging dentists illegal fees to participate in the program and also requiring dentists to provide dental services for free, even in cases where the student's parents have insurance that would cover the cost.
The suit also alleges that the city and the department of health required dentists to pay an administrative fee but did not provide any administrative services to the dentists.
The Chicago Association of School Dentists filed the suit in Cook County Circuit Court on Sept. 8.
The Chicago Department of Health, which runs the program, did not respond to a request for comment from Becker's.
