Florida Atlantic University fails to secure additional state funding for new dental school

Boca Raton-based Florida Atlantic University was not approved to receive more than $100 million in state funding for its upcoming dental school, Boca Magazine reported March 19.

In June 2023, Florida Atlantic University received $30 million to go toward construction of the dental school and $10 million to cover operating expenses from the state. The university later requested an additional $100 million to cover construction and operations.

FAU has faced several uncertainties in recent months that could prevent it from opening the dental school. Kim Dunn, president of the university's Faculty Senate committee, said last year that the committee is worried about financing the new school and is concerned about the school's "viability," the magazine reported.

Barbara Feingold, vice chair of FAU's board of trustees and president search committee, previously pledged a $30 million donation for the dental school, but said her donation would depend on the results of the university's ongoing presidential search.
