Six things to know:
1. Hurricane Helene made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane at about 11:10 p.m. ET with 140 mph winds, USA Today reported.
2. Helene has weakened to a tropical storm as of early morning Sept. 27, but has caused life-threatening flooding in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
3. Several dental offices within the path of the hurricane closed their doors ahead of the storm’s landfall.
4. Coast Dental, which has offices in Florida, Georgia and Texas, posted online Sept. 26 a list of more than 20 offices that would be closed because of the hurricane.
5. Several dental offices chose to remain closed Sept. 27 with plans to reopen Sept. 30.
6. This is the third major hurricane to cause dental office closures in the Southeastern states. Hurricane Debby made landfall in August, and many practices were left without power after Hurricane Beryl hit in July.
