5 dental education updates to know

From dental schools receiving grants to the first dental therapy education program in Washington, here are five dental education updates Becker’s has reported on since Aug. 31:

1. The average debt for a dental student was $292,169 in 2019, the last year data was available.

2. The American Dental Association backed two educational initiatives involving student loans and grants for two dental roles.

3. The UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry received a $2 million federal grant to launch a special care dental clinic.

4. The University of California Los Angeles School of Dentistry’s community-based clinical education program received a gift of $1.67 million to fund its expansion.

5. Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon, Wash., is launching the first dental therapy education program in the state.
