Las Vegas-based Absolute Dental recently gained preliminary court approval to settle a class-action lawsuit related to its 2025 data breach.

Absolute Dental, which has more than 50 locations across Nevada, discovered that an unauthorized party accessed some of its systems between Feb. 19, 2025 and March 5, 2025.

Third-party forensic investigators determined that the access originated from the accidental execution of a malicious version of a legitimate software tool, which occurred through an account associated with Absolute Dental’s third-party managed service provider.

The breach impacted the personal information of more than 1.2 million individuals.

A class-action lawsuit was later filed, which the practice agreed to settle for $3.3 million. The proposed settlement was filed in December and approved by a judge March 10.

U.S. District Judge Jennifer Dorsey said class council must file motions for final approval of the settlement by June 26. A final approval hearing is scheduled for July 30.
