The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative was founded in 2015 by Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, to fund education, community and justice projects. The recent grant was a part of a $33 million funding initiative to support research into childhood diseases, according to an Aug. 27 news release.
