Calhoun Community College is reportedly one of two schools in the state to offer dental hygienist training in an area that has a high demand for the program.
The program, which took three years of preparation, comes with the opening of a $1 million lab featuring 10 operatory areas. The lab was built using the school’s capital construction fund and federal funding from the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act.
The college received accreditation for the program Aug. 13. More than 50 people applied for the program, but the college had an enrollment limit of 14 students.
