A Connecticut dentist was recently ordered to pay a $10,000 fine and serve three years of probation after a patient’s death, CT Post reported Oct. 24.
Chukym Alexis-Johnson, DDS, was performing an implant procedure on 81-year-old Maureen Scott in December 2021 when Ms. Scott became unresponsive and died while undergoing treatment.
The state Department of Public Health found Dr. Alexis-Johnson failed to meet standards of care in several ways. Dr. Alexis-Johnson signed a consent order with the department, agreeing to pay the $10,000 fine and serve probation.
During the three-year probationary period, Dr. Alexis-Johnson can only be employed in a setting that includes other licensed dentists on-site. She must also complete 36 hours of pre-approved coursework.
Additionally, Dr. Alexis-Johnson’s license was permanently restricted from performing dental implant procedures or using any form of sedation.
