DEA raids Kentucky dental office, arrests 1 dentist: 5 things to know

Police raided Louisville (Ky.) Dream Dentistry Aug. 16 and arrested a dentist after becoming aware of suspicious quantities of controlled substances, according to WDRB.com.

Here are five things to know:

1. The Louisville Metro Police Department Narcotics, Drug Enforcement Association, Kentucky State Police and Inspector General’s office searched the dental office.

2. Thomas Tyre, DMD, was arrested. The raid turned up large sums of controlled substances and three firearms.

3. Police claim the drugs being given to patients were expired. Arrest records note the drugs were kept without a log or inventory record. Additionally, firearms and ammunition were not kept in a locked safe.

4. Investigators also allege Dr. Tyre wrote patients prescriptions and then asked the patients to return the narcotics to him.

5. “Dr. Tyre is facing three charges of illegally dispensing, prescribing [and] administering controlled substances,” WBRD.com reported.He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 20.
