Dr. Elliot Hersh retires from Penn Dental Medicine after 35 years of teaching

Elliot Hersh, DMD, PhD, a professor in the oral and maxillofacial surgery department at the University of Pennsylvania dental medicine school in Philadelphia, retired after 35 years.

Dr. Hersh joined the university in 1988 and retired during the 2022-23 academic year. 

During his teaching career, Dr. Hersh earned the school’s highest teaching honor, the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching. He was also awarded the Dental School’s Excellence in the Teaching of Basic Science Award 20 times. Dr. Hersh’s research has led to the development of several pain relief products, including ibuprofen liquigels.
