Here are four highlights:
1. The free clinic is open twice a week and provides preventative care and extractions to help decrease the number of people seeking dental treatment at Onslow Memorial Hospital.
2. Around 2,000 people visit Jacksonville, N.C.-based Onslow Memorial Hospital’s free clinic with another 800 visiting the hospital’s emergency department regarding oral health issues. The hospital is seeking grant resources to expand its free clinic and treat more community members.
3. The North Carolina Dental Society donated $25,000 for start up equipment and supplies, and the 3,500 square foot clinic was donated by a former practice.
4. Since its opening in September, the clinic has seen 125 patients. The clinic estimates it will serve a minimum of 400 uninsured people during the first year.
