The University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry has added the department of population oral health, its first new department in more than 30 years.

The college’s ninth academic department evolved from its Division of Prevention and Public Health Sciences, according to a Jan. 26 news release. The new department will serve as a central hub for advancing dental public health, clinical prevention, evidence-based practice and interprofessional education.

Associate Dean for Prevention and Public Health Sciences Scott Tomar, DMD, was appointed the inaugural chair of the department.
