Bright Smile Dental Care, a dental practice in Fishers, Ind., has provided notice of a potential data security incident.
On Aug. 3, the practice discovered ransomware on its server that affected its practice management, patient record and dental imaging software. An investigation determined that a threat actor likely would not have been able to view or acquire any data, according to a notice posted by Bright Smile Dental Care.
Information that may have been involved in the incident includes names, dates of birth, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, insurance information, health information and Social Security numbers.
Because all of the data on Bright Smile Dental Care’s server was encrypted , the practice said there is no indication that the threat actor possessed the encryption keys needed to view the data. At this time, the practice has no evidence that any patient information has been misused, the notice said.
