Maine college opens dental education clinic: 5 things to know

The University of Maine at Augusta has opened an expanded dental education clinic to improve access to dental care, according to a Nov. 4 news release from the university.

Here are five things to know:

1. The Delta Dental Oral Health Center is located at the UMA Lewiston Center.

2. The addition doubles the center’s capacity to educate dental professionals by adding three new operatories and a 3D digital X-ray machine. 

3. The UMA Lewiston Center and UMA Bangor campus can accommodate 30 dental assisting students and 30 expanded function dental assisting students each year.

4. Joseph Szakas, UMA provost and vice president of academic affairs, noted that 95% of the school’s allied dental health professional students stay in the state to provide dental care after graduation.

5. The project was funded by a $665,000 grant from Northeast Delta Dental.
